Ohio-Based Investment Advisor Sentenced to Over Eight Years in Prison
Posted on Sep 13, 2010
Enrique F. Villalba Jr., an Ohio-based investment advisor, was sentenced by a federal judge in Cleveland to over eight years in prison for a scheme that defrauded 27 investors out of $30.4 million, according to an article by WKYC. His sentence was handed down after he pled guilty to wire fraud.
Court documents show that Villalba told investors he would include stop order procedures as part of his "Money Market Plus" investment product in order to provide a conservative approach to future markets trading while still realizing an eight-to-12 percent return. The claim was that the stop orders would protect investors' principal investments. According to the WKYC article, the stop orders were never put into place, causing significant losses to the investors.
