SEC Sets a New Record in 2011

2011 is officially over for the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and the SEC reports a new record high for number of cases filed during the year. According to the SEC, the agency brought 735 cases during 2011, which is the most ever reported in a fiscal year. Additionally, the agency collected $2.8 billion in penalties, which was down slightly from 2010 when the agency collected $2.85 billion in penalties. However, in 2010, the agency only filed 677 cases.

112 of the 735 SEC cases were against broker dealers, and 14 of the 735 SEC cases were against investment advisors.
