Ohio Man Receives More Than 5 Years in Prison for Investment Fraud
David Harriet of Warren, Ohio was finally sentenced to 68 months in prison on Tuesday, Sept. 28 for running an investment scheme that defrauded over 200 people out of more than $7 million, according to a Sept. 30 Associated Press article. His sentence also included an order to repay the stolen funds.
As discussed here, after pleading guilty in June, the 61-year-old's sentencing was delayed so that he could undergo treatment for pancreatic cancer. U.S. District Judge Kathleen O'Malley has recommended Harriet be placed in a prison medical facility and has granted him permission to finish his three months of treatment before beginning his sentence, according to the AP article.
Harriet, who admitted to making false representations to investors and misappropriating investor funds, expressed remorse in court. "What I did was wrong," he said, according to the article. "I'll live with this pain that I've caused you for what little time I have left."
