Ohio Department of Insurance Accepts Surrendered Licenses of Two Bay Village Residents
The Ohio Department of Insurance recently accepted the resident insurance licenses of two Bay Village residents: Frederick Bryant and Jeffery Allen, according to a September 27 Sun News article.Allen was accused of engaging in the unauthorized practice of law by promoting and selling "advanced directives through which legal rights were established and memorialized," according to the article. Bryant had an interview scheduled with the Ohio Department of Insurance for which he failed to appear.
Along with a myriad of other functions, the Department's job is to investigate complaints made by insurance consumers and to monitor insurance sales agents to ensure compliance with regulations. As part of its efforts to protect consumers, the Department recently launched an educational program entitled "Take Action: Protect Yourself from Fraud." The goal of the program is to educate consumers and mature Ohioans on how to recognize and avoid fraud.
"There are growing trends in insurance and annuities fraud especially targeted at older people," said Ohio Department of Insurance Director Mary Jo Hudson in a May 11 press release. "This initiative is a proactive step to arm all Ohioans with knowledge to help them avoid financial exploitation."
