Man Gets 6 Months in Prison for Investment Fraud

A con man was sentenced to six months in prison last week after pleading guilty to investment fraud in Delaware.

The man, 46-year-old Darren Dobson, pleaded guilty in January for selling an unregistered security and working as an unregistered securities agent. The charges stemmed from $45,000 Dobson allegedly took from a New Jersey couple.

According to the charges, Dobson promised the couple a $10 million return on a $50,000 investment within six months. Of that amount, $7 million was supposed to be donated to a charity. The couple gave him $45,000 in 2005 but never received anything in return.

Now, Dobson faces six months in prison and 30 months of supervised release. He was also ordered to pay $68,000 in restitution (the original investment plus interest) and was banned from any future sale of securities.

"While we are satisfied that this con artist was sent to prison for the crimes he committed, no sentence can reverse the devastating effects of this scam on his innocent victims,” Attorney General Biden said.
