FBI Still Looking for Brother of Convicted Ponzi-Schemer Kevin Harris
According to FBI Agent Ronald E. Helmick, Keelan Harris hasn't been seen in the United States since Oct. 29, 2009, when the FBI interviewed him about his suspected role in a $20 million investment scheme ("Defendant in Ponzi case continues to elude FBI," Vindy.com, March 14, 2011).
On Oct. 7, 2010, the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) charged Kevin Harris, Keelan Harris (both of Warren Ohio), Karen Starr, and Patrick Cole (along with their various business entities) with fraud and misappropriation for their alleged roles in a multi-million dollar foreign currency (forex) Ponzi scheme. The CFTC alleged that the defendants operated the scheme from November of 2006 through October of 2008, at which time the scheme collapsed, investor payouts were stopped, and investor lawsuits began to be filed. Numerous investors from Toronoto and Ohio, and in various other states, lost hundreds of thousands of dollars in the scheme.
Keelan Harris fled the area not long after the CFTC lawsuit was filed. As reported in the Vindy.com article, the FBI has "reason to believe that [he] is currently in Panama," but his exact whereabouts remain unknown. Over the last decade, he has had addresses in Warren, Ohio; Lewisburg, Pennsylvania; Johnstown, Pennsylvania; and a federal penitentiary.
Keelan Harris, like co-defendant Karen Starr, has not yet been charged in criminal court for the scheme. Kevin Harris was convicted of wire fraud and money laundering in federal court last year. His sentencing is imminent.
